Arnon Erez and Aharon Helfgot are two close friends.
For years, each made wine separately at their own
homes, one in Givat Zeev and the other in Anatot. Without knowing about their shared hobby. Each also invested in formal wine studies: Aharon studied at
Carmel Mizrachi and Arnon at the Hebrew University.
When they discovered their common passion, they
decided to join forces and make wine with simple methods and in small volumes. But their love of the field as well as their products led them to aspire for
more.
The Story
In 1998, they decided to situate themselves in the village Almon
- Anatot. in Aharon's yard, and bought their first presser and crusher (which can be seen today in the winery's garden). The first barrel
room was a small tunnel they dug on the premises, and when the
volume grew they added a wooden cabin which was connected to
the tunnel. Since soon enough, they added a large container, so that
today the winery spans over three buildings. Over the years, the two
have accumulated, along with experience and knowledge, a great deal
of unique equipment, most of which they built themselves -from an
electric crusher to a labeling device.
The Philosophy
Arnon and Aharon make their wines with a great deal of love and
patience, and less, according to them, in order to make a profit. To
them, the winery is a dream come true, and they invest all their energy
in it. In addition, out of their great belief in the innovation of technology
the two are constantly working on introducing as many machines as possible to enable them to run the winery independently, without
external help: "The goal: says Arnon, "is that one person will be able to do all the work on his own."
Facts and Wines
The winery makes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, and blends
of The three. the most notable and successful on the market is the "Notera" [the meaning of the name is a building in the vineyard used for
sleeping and guarding the yield].
Before their sale, the wines are aged in oak barrels for two years in
low temperatures and then another six months in bottles. The grapes,
which receive close care and attention, are purchased by Arnon and
Aharon from the vineyards of Lachish, Kidron, Shilo, Ganey Yohanan,
and Alon Hagalil.
